Note
The mechanical text for the Alchemist class can be found here on Archives of Nethys. The text below is the description of the role and status of a certified Alchemist.
A professional Alchemist is a highly-educated master of Alchemy, the art of combining elements and substances to create new items. Often hired alongside professional Wizards (if not also Wizards themselves), they support many noble houses, or at least ones who are able to afford such highly qualified personal assistants.
The role of a hired alchemist is often to aid with creation of any medicaments for the house members, as well as repairing and restoring old constructs. As such, trained alchemists are trained in a wide variety of magical, medicinal, and mechanical disciplines to fulfill their role.
This possible proximity to upper echelons of power is also one of the few merit-based ways of gaining political power in the world, attracting many schemers who study alchemy to be able to influence the political world around them. This leads to a social stereotype of scheming technocrats, with many stories of scientists thinking of their masters as that of a lesser intellect and unfit to rule.
The alchemists employed by the major houses tend to be more interested by inserting themselves into politics and furthering their political interests than actually practicing alchemy.
There are few noteworthy academe that Alchemists are proud to hail from:
- Academie Peripherie of Mogxia (Alchemy Wing)
- Alkahestral College of Vilhun
