Transmutation Engines are alchemical machines capable of automating transmuting inorganic material. Hand-crafted for specific tasks, they are able to refine materials and transmute metals, and synthesize new substances.

These three primary uses are how Vilhun is managing to stopgap its precarious industry sector, refining its otherwise poor quality ore, as well as mass produce otherwise labor-intensive substances such as Redpowder.

The invention of the engines has been sponsored by the previous Vilhi Sultanate in collaboration with Cragmoore officials and inventors, notably Borgrumm Holdok for designing the clockwork machinery. This has also attributed to a growth in a Cragmoore diaspora in the nation, primarily trained alchemists and inventors capable of operating these machines who wanted to get out of underneath Magistrates boot.

A relatively recent invention, transmutation engines have so far not spread to the rest of the world on account of being somewhat of a trade secret, requiring specialized training, and a very sophisticated fuel apparatus.

The transmutation engines require a very consistent source of mechanical power to operate. Precise like a clockwork watch, these machines can break if there are sudden surges or stalling in the machinery. In an event it does happen, they require disassembly and cleaning before continuing, and at worst they can actively self-destruct, especially when handling explosive or corrosive substances.

Refinement and synthesis are so far the safest and most common uses of transmutation engines, used to mass produce higher quality ore or potion ingredients. Transmutation is riskier as it involves highly energy-intensive runes, splitting and fusing the bare essence of metal, producing high amounts of pollution, heat, or both.
