Titles

Names are important.

Make sure to add aliases to your pages. If you’re writing about a location, try to include any historical or alternative names for the place. If you’re writing a character, you’ll usually want to include their most commonly used name (first name or nickname) as an alias. If you’re writing about a concept, the title might be something like ”Ancestries of Vendrith,” but you’ll be remis not to add an alias for just ”ancestry.”

Tip: Proper quotation marks (”) cannot be used in titles, but you can use double apostrophes (”).

Tags

Adding proper tags to your article should be top priority, as it is easily forgotten later if not. Always get the most appropriate tag down if possible. The main tags of this wiki as of now are:

people places events society religion cosmos campaigns

You are also recommended to do a nested tags if possible. Here are some examples of nested tags an article might have:

npc #ancestries/goblin #society/bmdfireworks #campaigns/circles #places/mogxa/philosophia

Places are especially useful nested, but could get excessive. Therefore, make sure you 1) Do not tag a place’s own name if it has a tag, so if the example was the article of Philosophia itself, cut out the /philosophia at the end of this places tag. And 2) follow the format below-

The format for a nested place tag is: places/ region/ such as Mogxa, Canath and Horiza. Places that are on the borderlands between regions can have two place tags, using the different regions. nearest settlement/ such as Singsong or Friedport. Towns & cities preferred over villages. OR natural area name/ such as the Ivory Plateau, the Scar of Galae, the Red Desert, etc.

The names should be lowercase, and a single word that is ideally not too long (judge the best shortening yourself, hyphenate if needed).

Note that many regions are at times divided into sub-regions, but for simplicity’s sake we do not include them as tags. Subdivisions of regions into areas, and of large settlements such as Philosophia into districts are to be represented in the description or in maps. For now at least, this includes not tagging Brincanath and Canath, as a place in either is simply tagged as being in Canath. If in doubt of a place’s region, ask Ilija.

For planes other than that of Materia, use the cosmos tag with a similar format: cosmos/ plane/ such as Labyrinthia, the Dreamyard or Deep Grey. region/ or settlement if applicable.

Articles related to the happenings in campaign should be tagged with its campaign name, such as landcrab-plot or road-to-longdawn. This can include PCs, NPCs, events, settlements, specific locales, macguffins, and much more. Usually not applicable for really broad concepts, such as just “cosmology” or “goblins.”

What to article? what to link?

There are no right answers, but here’s some precedent you can draw from. Obviously everything from the tags is good to make articles on - places, people and events in particular. You’ll still have to use judgement as to when to bother including something, as not every single shop or named NPC is always interesting or relevant enough to bother including (Friedport would be one third of this wiki if it included all its NPCs).

When it comes to PCs, I recommend making an article for their party and link everyone to that - instead of always linking everyone to eachother (subject to change, but this is what we’re doing for now). You can still link PCs and PCs, and PCs and NPCs that have particular connections of course, such as being in relationships, being related, or having played important parts in each other’s stories separate from their actions as a party.

Files

The folder structure is imperfect but also should not be necessary to find files thanks to tagging, searching, and such. Still, try to use the folders somewhat appropriately. Here’s some guidelines for them:

_admin Ancestry-Culture Creatures Geography-Government Groups Magic-Cosmology Materials-Trades Older-History Ongoing-History Persons Religion

Secret

If you make a folder called “Secrets” amongst the other folders, it and its contents will not be synched to the published wiki for all to see. You can do so to keep your spoilerific and highly WIP stuff you don’t feel like sharing yet.

Description

Adding meat to the bone of your article is an art, not a science. How you structure your article should be based on needs - short articles for example do not need summaries or separate headings. However, here are some nice guidelines of some things you may include, in an order that may be best to follow.

Before anything you may need clarifications such as “not to be confused with…” to distinguish it from other similarly titled articles. Beyond that, start with simple and short description. Sometimes it may be insightful to include in a parenthesis how a name is pronounced and what it means - though longer sections on etymology should have its own heading.
