Twinvale is a long valley on the border between the Painted Canath north of the Celene and Ferweth, as well as a settlement of the same name within it. The steep cliffs that make it up on its innermost parts are known as the Valecliffs, which are impassable to all but the most dedicated climbers, or those with flight.

Twinvale is in a bit of a rivalry with the similarly sized settlement of Sharghei’s Landing towards the western end of Painted Canath. The central settlement of Aramtun is often drawn into this rivalry.

Culture

The settlement of Twinvale is in the Painted Province of Canath, once conquered from a number of tribes not of Canathi language or origin. Whereas much of the rest of the province has adopted certain practices inspired by the old tribes, the settlement of Twinvale retains a unique culture somewhat separate from those, likely helped by their geographical isolation from them because of the Twin Forest. Twinvale attempts to exert influence over Auchiton and the Haldrine Halls.

The valley, thought in Ferwethi tradition to have been carved by an enormous worm, has been identified with a Canathi event or story called the Battle of a Hundred Heroes. In it, a settlement threatened with total extinction made a call out for those willing and able to defend it against an enormous beast - whom arrived just in time to battle for an entire evening just to convince this monster to turn around to where it came from.

Geography

The settlement of Auchton can be reached following the road or coast east. Going west one would have to pass through the road-less Twin Forest, though due to a number of superstitions few but adventurers dare to do so. On the other side lies the Haldrine Halls, which lies at the end of a road connecting to the rest of Painted Canath further west. Some see it as a rite of passage for an aspiring hero to make it to the Haldrine Halls from Twinvale.

The smaller settlement of Twinberry sits atop a deep part of the vale, where the distance between the sides is small enough a rope bridge usually extends across it. While they can be seen from each other on days with a clear climate, there is little contact or interaction between the two settlements, or the two regions, due to the stark height difference and difficulties involved with climbing it.

Residents of Twinvale have on occasions sent complaints by courier to Twinberry regarding bodies and trash being dropped down the vale, but it is unknown if these have ever reached Twinberry. It is a common myth in Twinvale City that the backwards folk of Twinberry execute criminals by throwing them off the bridge.
