The Rubyfirth is an internal sea bordering all of Mogxa, Galae, Nagonkor, Canath, Eydwin, Talvas and Veducia.

Rubyfirth can also be used to refer to a cultural-social set of groups. A series of city states, multicultural communities and elite merchants exist in-between these worlds, mainly with their roots in Talvas, whom dominate seafaring and trade. They were once rivals of the Zardoban Empire, but have since its defeat triumphed as the world’s utmost experts of shipbuilding and commerce. The Rubyfirth merchants were instrumental in founding the Horizan Guild Association, which has its official headquarters on the island of Jed.

The Rend Peoples are a series of peoples whom have traversed across and lived along the Rubyfirth bay and more. They can be considered precursors of the modern Rubyfirth culture, and despite their growing apart, still constitute a series of linked cultures across the shores of this sea.

Notes

I’m thinking of making the Rubyfirth Bay more of its own cultural community and set of polities instead of just a geographic thing. It would stretch around the Rubyfirth Coastline, from South Canath even touching Nagonkor, to the western borderlands between Canath and Eydwin, to the Talvan (and lesser extent Veducian) coast. It would also include the island of Jed.

I’m thinking the inspiration should be the Kilwan Coast, a realm of Muslim merchants who occupied exactly the coastline of eastern Africa (and basically never went far inland), focusing on having a strong navy, defendable coastal settlements, and being the ones trading the ivory, gold and slaves from east africa into the Muslim world, and whatever goods they offered in return back.

I think they also should overlap the realm of Talvas though, which is an Egyptian like desert civilisation built on a river that feeds out into the Rubyfirth. I think the Talvans should go farther inland and have strong armies and a god-king type religion and empire, but that in reality the Rubyfirthers exert varying degrees of influence over its northernmost settlements. -Ilija
